During Jesus’ three and a half years of ministry on earth, He demonstrated the healing ministry in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are 23 different individual healings recorded in the four gospels. Jesus healed everyone from the ten lepers to the boy with a demonic spirit. Everyone who came to Jesus for healing was completely healed. The longest time it took for Jesus to heal anyone was around one hour. Also, at times Jesus healed the multitudes (thousands), but the Bible doesn’t go into detail on how He ministered healing to them.
Jesus’ healing ministry today is not the same as it was when He walked the earth in His physical body. Today Jesus is not physically walking up and down the streets in your town or city. No one can walk up to Jesus in His physical body and ask Him to lay His hands on them and heal their body. These are some of the reasons why we have to bring the healing example and principles of Jesus over into the Epistles:
- Jesus didn’t pray in His name because He was the name of Jesus.
- Jesus is not here in His physical body.
- The anointing is probably a little different.
- It takes longer for us to get healed during the Church age, because we are not healed within 60 minutes most of the time.
- You can’t see Jesus in the physical body.
- Normally, you can’t hear His audible voice.
- The Bible doesn’t give you specific instruction on what to do in order to release your faith; you have to be led or instructed by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God.
- You can’t receive instructions from Jesus while looking in His physical eyes.
The Bible says that Jesus died on the Cross for our sins and that by His stripes we were healed (1 Pet. 2:24). Jesus healed everyone 2,000 years ago when they put those stripes on His body right before His crucifixion. Right now Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, our Father, but He also lives in our spirits. Jesus is omnipresent, which means He can live in everyone’s spirit on earth at the same time—all six billion people. The Bible says that Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever (Heb. 13:8). In Rom. 2:11 it says, “For there is no respect of persons with God.” “For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning” (Rom. 15:4). Everything that Jesus did in the Gospels was for our learning and training on how to minister healing and deliverance to ourselves and those that we pray for.
No one could live under the law in the four gospels alone and be a successful Christian. The four Gospels are a history of the life of Jesus: His work, His sayings, and His deeds. In the gospels we see Jesus dying, but if we don’t go further than the Gospels, we won’t know why He died. It is in the Epistles that we read what Christ wrought for us through His death, burial and resurrection. The Epistles show us what we have and who we are, in and through Christ Jesus. The Epistles are letters written to the churches and include the books of Romans through Jude in the New Testament.
It is important that we apply the principles of faith to our daily lives. Rom. 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” You must keep on hearing and hearing and hearing the Word of God to keep your faith active. My faith is kept active by hearing the Word of God. Jesus Christ bore stripes on His back for our healing; we must accept it, confess it, receive it, and take it. You need to continually confess statements like this “Thank You, Father, that the healing power of God is working in my body to effect a healing and a cure.”
The examples and principles that Jesus demonstrated for three and a half years while He was ministering on earth while living in His physical body are for us today. We have to go to the Word of God and take each incident and read and meditate on them until they become a part of our hearts. It will require a period of time of meditating on each one before they will become a part of you. We must make the commitment and spend the time required to bring the Word into our hearts until it becomes a part of our nature.
Remember, there is a vast difference between you praying for someone else and you receiving healing or any other need from God, your Father, in the name of Jesus. One of the hardest things for a Christian to do is to receive healing for a major sickness for themselves most of the time. It will require a different level of faith for you to receive healing for yourself compared to praying for someone else. When you are praying for someone else you don’t have the pain or symptoms in your soul and body like they do. You don’t have the problems that they have so it makes it easy for you to believe by faith that they are healed. When you are believing for your own healing you have to contend with all the negative reports, your feelings and everything else the devil is throwing at you. Therefore, it will require a greater level of faith for you to believe for yourself.
